The Story Behind the Art
Every year, I used to go whale watching — and every time I did, it put everything into perspective. These magnificent creatures are so beautiful and calm. Standing beside something that enormous makes you realise how small we are, and how much we tend to amplify the little worries in our lives. We are part of this earth. Tiny specks in a vast universe.
This artwork was also born from a deep love of the ocean and a quiet grief for what we're losing. With so much of our marine world under threat, Surfer and Whale is a reminder of the extraordinary connection between humans and the sea — and a call to cherish it.
